why does my profile image upload but fail to show up? it shows in the User CP.

maybe it doesn’t show to me, but only to others?

There are two different images in the user control panel (CP.) They can be different or the same. Profile photo displays when people visit your profile. Avatar photo displays in your messages. In my case I used the same photo for both.

There are different entries in the User CP panel for both. Look at this image:
