First cattleya. Is it a bloom spike ?
Default First cattleya. Is it a bloom spike ?

I bought this at Lowe’s for a decent price.
It has opened up two leaves and grown so many roots since I got it!
And now it is developing something new . Is it a flower spike or another leaf sheath? Thanks for viewing

It has terrific-looking new roots in the right hand photo. In the left hand photo I can't see exactly where the growth that you're looking at is coming from. In Cattleyas, spikes typically come from the point where the leaf joins the pseudobulb, while new growth comes from the base. But from the photo it's hard to tell.

I removed some of the bark around it , to try to see.
Here is another picture .
If it isn’t a flower, I assume it is getting enough light to eventually flower with all this growth ? I keep it in a west window .

New growth. New growth and new roots are great. One can never promise whether it will be this one or s subsequent one, but any time you see action, there's always the chance that it will lead to blooming. Orchids teach patience...

What you're seeing is a new growth. The other growths visible in the photo show no sign of previous bloom. They do, however, appear to be the same size which would lead me to believe it's a mature plant. I think, with adequate light and some occasional fertilization it should be capable of blooming.

Hello again !
Well, it did grow into a leaf( the big bright green one in front ). But now I've got another spiral thing growing. It seems super happy.
Attached some photos. Will update if it ever blooms .

Beautiful little new growth on its way. And lovely new roots too. A happy, healthy plant will bloom when it's ready, looking great. Well done!

It certainly looks healthy and large enough to bloom. What sort of exposure does it get and for how long? I assume that you have been fertilizing it periodically?
