how do I get the URL to post an image
Hi Folks, I am a newbie. I reside on the east coast of Canada. I have a modest collection of orchids and I need advice on various things.
First though, how exactly do I post an image? How do I get the URL for an image that is on my desktop.
Many thanks.

For this, you'll want to either post your images to a image-hosting website such as imgur/photobucket and use the image link the website generates, or you can directly upload pictures to the thread by clicking "Mange Attachments" in the "Additional Options" section (if you are replying to a thread, you'll first need to click "Go Advanced"), and then you can add photos there. Orchidboard sometimes has trouble with photo orientation when you upload photos, but the problem can be easily solved by editing your photos – you don't even have to make any changes (eg. just rotate it 90° four times, crop and uncrop, etc.). For some reason as long as you edit your photos then they appear upright. Hope this helps!

Don't use photobucket, unless you're a paying user.
Most of my old photos in this forum are not available anymore to post here because they changed their policy midway.

Oops, good point; I forgot photobucket's services are now behind a paywall... imgur is still free though!

I have been using postimages for a long time on various forums. I have found it to be the easiest process for posting pics in proper orientation to this forum. It is always free to use and is not an info collector.

You don't need to use external hosting services. The software here is old, and sometimes external services put very large photos into messages. Some people can't see the whole photo at once, and need to pan side to side. I don't even look at threads with such photos because it takes forever to load on my computer.
There are instructions for posting photos in the About This Board forum. From the left yellow menu select Forums, then select the very top forum. The first sticky thread is How To Post Photos.

There is no URL for an image on your desktop. URLs are for objects on the internet.
As has been said, you can use a 3rd-party hosting site, then use that URL to post the image in-line (within the body of the post), or you can attach the image from your desktop:
- Compose your post
- Scroll down and click "Go Advanced"
- Scroll down and select "Manage attachments". A second window will pop up.
- Click on "Select file", and search and select your computer for the image.
- Click "Upload"
- When that's done, you can "close window".
When you post the message, the thumbnail image will be attached.

One method is by uploading the image to OrchidBoard, which actually will become reduced automatically in size (if the original is larger) to about 1024 x 768 pixel (or there-abouts). OrchidBoard image processing software will reduce the quality of the pic, but in many cases - the quality will still be satisfactory.
Some tips to upload and display the images is seen in this link here ...... click here.
