Discoloration and leaf shriveling on Oncidium Witches Jewel Female
Default Discoloration and leaf shriveling on Oncidium Witches Jewel

Can anyone tell me what might be wrong with my oncidium witches jewel?

I just got her a few weeks ago from a reputable seller and two of her leaves looked like they had old damage from spider mites (this leaf was one of them). I just repotted her a few days ago into a mix of bark and sphagnum moss and put her near a window with more light. I have another oncidium that I've had for almost a year that has been doing well in this medium mix and light so I thought the witches jewel would be happy. I noticed yesterday that this leaf looks really bad. I tried looking up pictures of fungal infections but it doesn't look like anything I found. This leaf is on the biggest and newest growth so I don't think it would be dropping off naturally plus it happened pretty quickly?

Any thoughts? I'm worried about her and that she might be sick. I'm still pretty new at this and thought since my first oncidium had been doing so well I could continue to do well with more of these.

That looks a lot like cold damage. If it happened in shipping, sometimes it does take awhile to show up. Or touching a freezing-cold window could do it too. Heat damage (like from a blast of sun) can look similar. The other leaves, what I can see of them, look fine.

As long as pseudobulbs are healthy and your care is good, new growths will be healthy.

Thank you both! I didn't realize it might take a bit for damage to show. Yes - the other leaves all look fine and the bulbs are fat, happy, and not wrinkled.
