I am mounting some smaller orchids on cork bark (a couple of Dens and also Haraella retrocalla). What fertilizer would you suggest using? How would you suggest applying it? Also, I'm an American expat in Europe and have noticed that the fertilizer is not labeled the same way. 20-20-20 fertilizer is not labeled as such. This adds to some confusion. At any rate this newbie welcomes all input.

Maybe just read the label - to inspect the contents or concentration of nitrogen. And then can probably go from there in terms of later figuring out a mixing plan.

This is assuming the bottle has a chemical contents information provided.

The numbers mean slightly different things in the US and the EU. I can't remember the difference but you should look it up.

You will find all the information you need at the First Rays Web site. Look in Free Information.

In general fertilization is the least important aspect of orchid growing. More important are proper light, humidity, air at the roots and watering.

I fertilize all my orchids with a pump sprayer. Mounted plants just get a bath with the solution, like everything else. Nothing gets (or seems to need) very much.

I don't know how labels are in the US, but in europe a 20-20-20 would be clearly labeled as such, though perhaps in a different way than you are used to. I had a look at my fertilisers and staying with your 20-20-20 example I see it written either as
NPK 20 20 20
NPK 20+20+20
20% N 20% P2O5 20% K2O

Sometimes the nitrogen is broken down further, into the types of nitrogen compounds used.

I think the numbers are calculated diferently for some of the nutrients. It's been a long time since I read that and I don't have time right now to look it up.
