Phal schilleriana growing leaf on top of flower spike? Female
Default Phal schilleriana growing leaf on top of flower spike?

I’ve bought this phal schilleriana as a seedling and I was so excited that it was finally growing a flower spike for the first time. But I think it grew a mutant one I was looking forward for a bud to appear but now at the top of the flower spike what I see is a little leaf. Could this be a keiki or just a mutation that will die out? What’s going on with my plant? Hopefully it will bloom properly next time? Or is it doomed to just trick me?

I have seen phals do that, only to just have the flower spike grow and bloom normally.

I have also seen the plant just produce a keiki.

Time will tell...

I just had a Phal schilleriana bloom with the start of a keiki on the flower spike - which also produced lots of flowers. Whether the keiki goes anywhere remains to be seen... flowers are fading so I'll see if the leaf grows any roots.
