yeah, im seeing that we need to be better about this. these orchids were in one of our first orders, and we just bought a bunch of crap, not really realizing they had such different needs. i should have known better with my history with bonsai, but ill admit we may have been a bit excited! hahaha. the Dracula we got is actually looking surprisingly good hanging out in his moss basket on the balcony. it did well in my bathroom at my apartment, but we were lucky to have a spare bathroom to use as a temporary refrigerator with windows. meh, im sure we will lose a few, and that to me is just a part of the process.

here if I don't have the appropriate conditions I just create them, I have a few terrariums for that.

Orchids are easy but very challenging at the same time I find. Some I have never gotten to flower in years trying, others flower easily all the time. Sometimes they start thriving, other times they will just wither away. So it is hit and miss a lot of times and even being a good grower only goes a little way, their size, condition and growing environment are probably more important than the skill of the grower, long term that makes more of a difference but in the short term the skill of the grower does not show with orchids straight away.
I know my Phalaenopsis will never have the ideal growing environment at mine but I do ok with them.

To back up my sentiment I will just add that one can generally tell from pictures and with some experience whether an orchid is well grown or not but even a 10 year old badly grown orchid can outperform a well grown 3 year old orchid. Older orchids generally produce more and more flowers over time and sometimes even despite not ver good care so again a bit of hit and miss and either surprisingly easy or annoyingly challenging at times.

hey, thanks for the bit of reassurance! normally with plants my experience is that they tend to do better when I forget they are there 😂

so, if I could,do a poll i would, but what would be the consensus on repot? seems like I’ve already got a couple in the camp to redo immediately. but how? i am reluctant to mount cause I only have one mount that I bought that way and not confident. I thought last night about trying this one also in s/h. or just standard repot but in better mix?

thoughts? leave it till it’s done? I really want to see the flowers!! hahahah

just cause i am really fascinated by this particular flower for some reason, here is another pic of its development. its changed a lot over the last 24 hours, and starting to distend. the cleft is becoming even more defined, and im really hoping to see it soon! i will admit that orchids are fascinating little plants!

we were away for a few days, and came home to this! get to see at least one flower, hopefully it will keep extending and put on one or two more. but anyways, here’s the last photo of this one for you guys! it’s a pretty one!
