Need help with Cycnode .... Male

Forgive me if I am repeating a post, I swear this afternoon I posted this and later it vanished??!!!!

Anyway, I got this Cycnode wine delight last week. I never had one of these before and did do some reading up on it. I assume it was grown in the Seattle Orchid companies greenhouse. It did not get frozen when shipped so thats a good thing ...but...

I was amazed at how live healthy and green it looked!
There was a small shoot/growth sprouting up next to it. Its a week later and all of a sudden the mother plant is turning yellow as is the leaves yet the little growth is shooting up very fast.
My questions are
-is this normal or am I killing it??!!
-is the mother plant the reservoir for the little plant now growing next to it?
-Is this the time to start watering it and how much?
-Any other suggestions would be helpful

Thanks

To reinforce what the culture notes say, no water yet. That little shoot is the new growth, wait until the leaves have spread out, roots are 3-4 inches long (or if you can't see how far down in the medium they are, wait for a second flush of roots. The yellow leaves are just the old ones from last year being shed a bit late. (I also had a few that didn't lose their leaves until the new growth started) But the winter dry dormancy is very important, and it is just emerging. That old pseudobulb is likely to stay nice and plump. but it is also providing the energy for the new one. It looks nice and healthy - and normal. I would guess that you have 6-8 weeks to wait before it's ready for watering.

I just bought one of these from Hausermann's and it is just a step behind yours. It began the new growth but the old growth is just beginning to enter the phase of losing its leaves.

I had one of these in the past and gave it away when I was trying to cull the collection...and regretted it ever since. I need to look through my emails and find that Sunset Valley email...I remember reading through it and thinking I should really get another Wine Delight.

If you can't find Cycd. Wine Delight, consider Mormodes Mark Mills or one of its relatives or offspring. Mine produced one big spike in the fall as it was going dormant, and now has another... the the plant is completely dormant. It has had no water in several months, and the spike, which opened at the end of February, is still going strong.
