Keeping or dropping flowers may depend on the genetics of the particular plant and overall health. Since my plants were newly acquired and not in peak condition, they may have been more predisposed to drop their flowers. Carrying the pod to fruition did not appear to adversely affect overall plant health, other than the loss of blooms the parent plants were fine and continued to grow normally in my care. If I recall correctly, they did skip reblooming while carrying the pod.
