Hello! I have a phal that is in spike, then stem is now about and inch and a half long. It was on a shelf that is not high enough to accommodate large flower spikes, and since I staked this phal today, it needed to be placed elsewhere. It is still in the same window, but had to turn it 90 degrees to place it on a larger shelf. Is this okay for the buds ( ie they won't bloom upside down).
It has been my observation (keep in mind I still consider myself a beginner and have a total of 5 phals) that the buds will follow the light. I have one now with all the blooms at funny angles after I repositioned it, but it still is pretty.

How much did you reposition it though? I was hoping that 90 degrees would not be enough to turn the flowers I just moved it, so I can always find another place to put it.
I don't remember how much I turned it. I took it to the sink to water it and then put it back without thinking about its position. I know it was less than 180 degrees. This is what it looks like now.
hmmm odd. Normally all the buds are facing a different direction, maybe this was just the wiered placement of the bud, and it won't do it next time. I think I will go place mine in the same location, in the same position
Once the flowers are open they won't change their position. When it becomes problematic is when you move them prior to buds opening. The buds will try to reorient themselves towards the light but may not have enough time to do so before they open. Hence the upside down/sideways/cockeyed look. I keep mine in the same position until all the buds are open. Then I move the fully bloomed plant somewhere in the house where everyone can enjoy it.
