Hi there, l am a new caretaker of 3 Phal orchids.
1. Mizuki: recently bought and in perfect condition. Currently in full bloom with healthy roots.
2. Yona: Probably a few months old. No flowers or stems yet, recently repotted due to root rot but still had surviving roots and aerial roots.
3. Takeo: rescued orchid that had been planted into soil for a few months. Had no surviving roots but didn't give up hope as she had one small new leaf. Has been repotted and hope to see some improvement.
I repotted Yona and Takeo a few days ago. Have not seen any change in Takeo yet but have been keeping her medium moist to encourage root growth. Yona ( the one with roots) was also repotted into new medium. I am worried about her since it seems to me that the colour of her roots has changed can anyone tell me if she is fine or is there reason to worry.
Hi rbarata, Thank you so much for the welcome. The medium for Yona and Takeo is a mixture of LECA, a bit of cork and standard orchid medium brought from the store. Mizuki is still in the potting medium she came in.
Welcome! Orchids teach patience... you won't see action over a period of a few days, more like a few months. So after you repot, just continue to give good care. Remember, new medium doesn't hold as much water as the old (which is good!) so you'll need to water more often. One way to figure out how often to water... water the plants well (so water runs out the bottom of the pot) Weigh the pot on a kitchen scale or postal scale. Check it in subsequent days, when the loss of weight seems to be leveling off, it's time to water again.
Dear Roberta and estación seca, Thank you very much for the welcome. Thank you so much for the watering tip. ill make use of it, and l will be much more patient in seeing results.
