Spider Orchid?
Default Spider Orchid?

Hello, this is my first post. I guess I am a beginner... i have six different orchids and have been hobbying for about two and a half years. However, I just started really getting into it b/c my babies quit spiking and flowering! So, i have been doing lots of research and getting them healthy. The only one I am having trouble with is my "Spider Orchid" (help with the species name???). Here is a picture of what mine looks like.

So, Here's the Problem: Two of the oldest Pseudobulbs are look like they are a bit shriveled. They are a little more dark green and look mushy but don't really feel mushy. What puzzles me is that the leaves look totally healthy. I should mention that I recently moved from an apartment to a house and the plant was next to an east facing window with plenty of sun. Any help with identifying this problem and/or fixing it??? sorry for the long post.

Hi, Ben. Six plants in 2.5 years? WOW! That's self control. Please be prepared to lose it!

No photo was attached, but the "spider orchid" moniker is commonly attached to plants of the genus brassia and it's close hybrids.

If the old pseudobulbs are not soft, it's probably not much to be concerned about, but that photo might help.

Hi Ben and Welcome!!!!!!
The spider orchid is not my specialty, but I have some questions for you.
What medium is it in and have you changed it in the 2 1/2 years? What light do you have it in now? It needs good light. When you say "They are a little more dark green and look mushy," are you referring to the roots? If so, that would lead me to believe that perhaps it is overwatered. Next question, how often do you water and for how long?
The picture looks great, by the way! I would guess it was a Brassia but again, I don't have alot of experience with these type orchids, so that would be a stab in the dark at best. I'm sure someone can help you better than I. Again, welcome!!!!
