Pink Vanda roots

Hi all! I've got a Vanda that's new to me within the past 2-3 months. When I got it, it had lovely green colored roots when wet but now the roots are turning pink and yellow in some sections.

Is this just a normal pigment reaction to light? Does it not like my water (I soak in tap water but am in an area with very good tap water)?

I think just force of nature, probably reacting to a change in conditions. The roots are nice and fat, and that's the goal. Where do you live? What conditions of temperature and light is it getting?

My climate is high desert, zone 3-5 - not exactly the natural habitat of Vandas haha definitely cooler than they'd like but I do get a fair amount of sunlight.

For the winter, I've been hanging them in a south facing window where they probably get 5-6 hours of direct sunlight a day. This will be too intense come summer, but so far the leaves aren't damaged and its the most warmth I can provide for them.

Keep it hydrated - which you have been doing. It looks like there are plenty of roots so you can afford to lose a few as the plant adjusts.

I also have hanging Vandas in south window but they're under growlights and I put them in the shower ev. other day. Easy to do as they crave water in my dry homewhich stays about 65 deg. Some roots get funky but I've managed to bloom 2 of them. When temps get much warmer, they hang outside under tree. Mom Nature helps me out.

My Vandas periodically lose some roots, especially new acquisitions that are adjusting. If you’re concerned, I can vouch for Kelpmax in Vandas. After a soak mine all start throwing new roots and new branches off old ones in as little as a week: as close as I’ve found to instant gratification when it comes to orchids

Hmmmm intriguing... I've heard about KelpMax but never tried it before - I'll keep that in mind!
