Catasetum and it's two new bulbs?
My Catasetum hasn't spiked and what I thought were spikes I now think are new bulbs. They are growing up high on the plant. I already think the mother plant should have been bury deeper than it is currently but these two are positioned one, on top of the other.
Next year , when this plant goes dormant , how do I repot them? If I bury the top bulb it will bury the one below it.
Maybe I should bury the mother plant side ways into the soil (length wise ) so these two both can grow upwards next to each other?
And dang it .. still no spike
The main plant can be found on this post. It's the first picture

You could repot right now. Set the plant so the two growths are near the new medium surface but not buried. Wait to water until new roots are about 4" / 10cm long.

Really? I always thought you had to wait until dormant. Also if I wait to water what about the main plant? Will waiting harm it?

Can't tell from the photo if dormancy has set in yet... if leaves are still green, I'd wait a month or so. Even if not ideal for those baby growths, you don't want to harm the main pseudobulb (which looks quite healthy) by repotting too soon.

When I said repot, I meant to pull it out of the old pot without disturbing the medium, dropping it into another pot, and filling around the old root ball with new medium. Repotting Catasetums does not necessarily include watering them.

I'd repot it right now. Dump all the old media give it fresh stuff since that media doesn't look great. Sink the old bulb down into the media so the the new growths have roots closer to the media.

I wasn't meaning to associate watering and repotting. I just meant for the main bulb. You said to wait until the new bulb's roots were a certain length. If I wait then the main bulb won't have water unless I misunderstand you.

"No water" is what the plant needs... the new growths will draw their energy from the main bulb, and when the roots get long enough (in a few months) then watering can resume. If the main bulb shows signs of shriveling, you can moisten the medium a little - once. But staying dry while dormant is very important for Catasetinae.

Okay got it. I thought "dormant" would be after the leaves drop off. Good to know. Thank You!
