This is the exact reason why I recommend a friend or somebody that doesn't get adversely affected to smell a flower of an orchid that is in flower before purchasing it ...... for Ik's case that is ...... for safety. Also - some flowers may produce the smell at different times of the day or maturity period - due to temperature, or stages of maturity etc.
At this link here, it certainly does mention the contradiction in the name and the mentioning of the actual orchid being quite fragrant -----
