Cattleya starting to get brown flowers
Default Cattleya starting to get brown flowers

Hello,

I bought this Cattleya a week ago. Humidity is 55%, there is ventilation and the temprature is 70 fahrenheit. She is standing near the east window.

Now the flowers start to get brownish. I watered it once, yesterday. Now I was wondering what I am doing wrong...

Could it be the cold from outside when it was sent to me?

Was it in bloom when you got it? If so, you have no way of knowing how long the flowers have been open. Cattleya flowers don't last as long as Phalaenopsis. 2-4 weeks is pretty normal. That flower just looks like it may be reaching the end of its life normally.

If was shipped in bloom, exposure to cold could certainly reduce the life of the flowers. Just give it good care, and next year when it blooms (or maybe sooner, some Catts bloom twice a year) you'll get the "whole show".
