Aerangis distincta - are these small black spots edema? Or?

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone can enlighten me to what these raised small black spots are?
It is not scale - I promise, it isn't. I even tried to swab it with alcohol to make sure, and it is a characteristic of the leaves themselves. My immediate thought is maybe edema? Can anyone confirm?

The orchid came into my care about 2 weeks ago and I mounted it (hopefully correctly). I grow indoors under lights.

It's just a natural characteristic of the leaves, I don't grow this species myself, but I do have vandas that display the same type of spotting.

Thanks, Jcec. I am relieved to here you say that. I was concerned bc the spots were raised not flush/smooth with the leaf. I tried to find closeup image of other distincta, but was unsuccessful.

I don't see any problem. Just observe... if nothing much changes over time, then no issue. If it increases and isn't limited to the oldest leaves, you can investigate further.

I would suggest giving it another couple of weeks before you put it in an enclosed area with other plants.

I agree with jcec1. My Rhynchostylis coelestis does the exact same thing in reaction to strong lighting.
