The first Phal I bought was planted in moss, and (as typical) the moss was so tightly wrapped around the roots that I had to soak them, and pick out the moss.
I was wondering if it would be a bad idea to re-use the old moss as long as it's in good condition. I've read that it is best to use fresh media, but I've also heard of some people recycling moss that isn't broken down.
Hi Mothlover. Generally speaking it's never a good idea to reuse any type of media with the exception of LECA which can be sterilized. It's probably the best way to spread disease and pathogens. There is no way to sterilze moss that I know of so I'd say put it in the trash and forget about it.
Ya, I agree with Pippin and Terry, re-using moss is a big no no. Aside from the fact that diseases (if they exist) will be transfered, moss only lasts for a few years, sometimes less. Its also pretty cheap to purchase!
