Diffuse vs direct feeble light
Default Diffuse vs direct feeble light

Dear all,
I have a very beginner question. My dendrobium phal and my small new aeranthes are the closest ones to a window facing south east. Until more or less 12:00 am there is some direct sun in summer, and thus I have added a light curtain which diffuses lights.

My question is the following: in winter, can I remove the curtain?

I checked and the light measurements are below 6000 lux in this period, depending on the day.

Basically, once I control the max lux, does it matter if the light is diffused or direct for the orchids?

thanks a lot,
Luigi

Your instincts are correct. Winter sun is not as hot as summer sun. I haven't grown Aeranthes, but I have been in Italy in November and December. I think most Den. phals will be fine with Italian winter sun.
