D-O-M - a good fertilizer will have a very complete array of nutrients in it, including iron, manganese, copper, boron, molybdenum, and zinc - in very low concentrations, which will be diluted to even lower concentrations for application.

Not only will they not damage the plants, they need them all.

I take a stance opposite to the conclusion you arrived at: I think feeding should be at VERY low concentration, but frequent. A plant in nature gets fed every time it rains, after all.
