Pot Recommendations for Repotting Sharry Baby
Hi! I have had a wonderful Sharry Baby for a few years now, and it has grown quite large. It just finished flowering, and since it is creeping over the edges of the pot, I am thinking it's time to repot. My only concern is that it is very wide, yet narrow. Bulb to bulb, it just fits in an 8 inch pot. I was thinking of going to a 10" a pot size, but I'm finding that it's very hard to find orchid pots with holes past 8". I would prefer to not separate and keep it as a large plant. Any recommendations?
I'm still new to caring for my oncidiums, so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

There are a variety of orchid pots we can buy from say ebay. In Australia, there are various kinds .... such as like the one shown attached.

Having a super size orchid pot is actually ok ---- provided we know what to do in terms of watering etc. Although, too large a pot can just mean wastage of potting media, and maybe wastage of water.
I actually do use over-size pots ..... for times when I just so-happen to run out of orchid pots. But most of my orchids are grown in regular black coloured plastic pots for garden plants with good drainage.
I grow my oncidiums in scoria ---- lava rock.

Mine is in an 8" pot after having been split into fourths. Slots are not necessary, since they like to run damp. I use clay and moss.

audrey ---- when you mention very wide, yet narrow ..... are both of those terms referring to the same dimension ---- such as horizontal width of the pot?
That is --- 'very wide, yet narrow' sort of cancels each other out.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! Apologies for the confusion. It is about 8" long and 4" wide, so rectangular in shape.

Have you considered a long, rectangular planter like those used for window boxes?

Welcome to the Orchid Board!
There is probably a hydroponics shop near you that sells plant pots of many different sizes.
Home Depot sells a container 9" high and 10 1/4" wide:
3 Gal. Black Resin Thermoformed Nursery Pot.
You can use a grinding burr with an electric drill to make holes in plastic containers, and convert them into orchid pots. Don't breathe the fumes.

I love those for the ones that like to ramble along the surface as well! I have two Blc's in a long window box, planted at each end, and am enjoying watching the race to the middle.

I like bulb pans a lot. They are wide relative to height so that you don't increase the volume so much to gain real estate. I have not found a local source, buy them online. One source is Greenhousemegastore.com, they have 8 inch and 10 inch. Another advantage of these is that with the low form, the center of gravity is lowered which helps with top-heavy plants.
