Repotting Dendrobium loddigesii
Default Repotting Dendrobium loddigesii

Hello,
Last year I bought a tiny chunk of Den loddigesii. After a very long pause in autumn and winter it started to develop this spring and has been growing like crazy for the whole summer. What a joy to see it! Now it seemingly stopped and I was preparing to slow down with watering and fertilizer. But I just noticed that the canes are starting to swell and produce roots. I wanted to repot it to its definitive location in a basket next spring, but would you wait or do it right now?
I would not like to upset it!
Thanks!
Tango

This tends to grow as a mat, rooting where it touches substrate. It is different from many other Dens, which primarily root from the base of a growth.

As you are seeing it roots after making growth. Yes, I would repot when a Dendrobium is making new roots.

However, considering its growth habit, think about placing it on a piece of cedar board, or a flattish section of log, and growing it mostly horizontally.

Hi Estación Seca,
Thanks for the good advice.
Then it will go to its basket soon. It's a big flat basket
Best,
T.

That's a very nice looking plant - good growing!
Good luck with your repotting.

At the risk of hijacking, Hausermann's has small plants of this now for $7. I got one this week.

If this one begins rooting I will move it to a piece of cedar plank. Otherwise I will wait for the spring to do so.
