Bright Pink Roots on my Phalaenopsis
Default Bright Pink Roots on my Phalaenopsis

I accidentally posted this in one of my previous threads So now I am giving it its own post.

I have a noid Phal that has really dark purple like magenta flowers that has a couple of really bright pink roots. I thought it was because of the color of the flowers that were causing that, but I wasn't sure. I separated it from the rest of my orchids. That was a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday I was just looking in the pot of one of my mini phals and I saw a bright pink root on that one as well. This plant wasn't doing that great root wise as it is. It looks healthy but just that one bright pink root. So I am asking you, knowledgeable people , what could this be and maybe it is just normal and I am being paranoid

Probably nothing to worry about. Some good quality close-up high res pics will help with assessments.

Also ..... this link Phalaenopsis has magenta roots/what is it?

A photo or two would help get a diagnosis that isn't just speculation.

Sorry here is a picture. It is not much on this one but on the other one, it is much worse. I think that one is because of the color of the flowers.

That almost looks like a pink algae or mold. (The sort that grows on cream cheese that has been around too long). Try giving roots a spritz of physan (which won't harm them but is a good algicide) If that clears it up then you have your answer. If not, maybe something else. I suspect it isn't harmful, though. (Algae in general isn't)

heather ----- all ok I think. That pink/magenta colour is highly likely due to pigmentation from the orchid itself. I recall one of my pink red flowered mini-catts having some pinky/red root tips too ----- root tips, of its air roots.

The circled region shows a root with pink pigmentation.

Totally normal in a plant with a lot of pigmentation. Quite lovely.
