Default anybody fimilar with this?

Chysis. LANGLEYENSIS V. Desert Sunset Species x SELF anybody have this, or know about it . Had the flowerless thing for like 7 or 8 yrs now with never even a sign of one(flower) . I have been told that the pseudobulbs are very nice and plump and maybe next year....I don't even know what the flower could look like as it was a seedling when purchased from White Rose. Now I buy plants in flower that way I know what it's like.

Thanks for any info.

Melanie

Grown in bark, under HID lights, temps are staying in the high 60's to mid 70's right now. Have tried dry periods, have tried cold periods, I've even tried no real dry/cold period. To say I'm fed up with this orchid would be an understatement. I've really only kept it because, I know a member of the local orchid society, she had a Phrag./Phap. that did the same thing to her. She gave it away to another member, and it bloomed within months.

I'll take a picture tomorrow of the bulbs. I'm so disgusted with it, that the mealy bugs are getting a pass this week... normally I'd be all over them nasty little things. Looks really bad for the hydroponics store to have bugs, but on a good note I can show customers exactly what they look like and the damage they do .

Hi Melanie,

Not alot of culture information with this one, but I did find this on google --

http://home.earthlink.net/~profpam/Chysis.pdf

This is a gorgeous orchid, I've been looking at this one for over a year now. I think I will email Warren at clouds orchids today or tomorrow to see what else he has to offer with any other culture requirements.

Thank you for the picture and info. I did try Google, but it was late and my patience ran out . Attached is of it. BTW I think the flowers are nice too.

Default Chysis langleyensis Desert Sunset x self

phearamedusa:

I've had a big ol' one for a similar number of years and never seen a bloom; except on-line. Fortunately I bought it because I liked the looks of the plant - sans flower.
Just got a tip that they like a cool, dry rest in winter. I hate to see the leaf-drop and pseudo shrivel. Gotta be tough and make it suffer.

Full sun and plenty of warmth and fertilizer in the summer, completely dry rest in the winter - all the leaves will fall off then and the plant will produce its flowers in the spring around the time that it starts once again into growth and then you resume watering.
