Help, my Phalaenopsis is decaying and its root seem rot
Unhappy Help, my Phalaenopsis is decaying and its root seem rot

Hi everyone. I got this Phalaenopsis as a gift last week, the day after I got it my electricity was shut down and I live in a very hot town in Mexico. I'm afraid I might overwater it, and also I had to move it around a lot since I had to sleep somewhere else these past days. The flowers have been decaying and some roots are not as green as others. Please help me save it, it was a gift from my mom Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

Is the humidity high? How hot is it?

It doesn't look too bad. I would leave it out of the pot for now so the medium dries out faster. The medium doesn't look like it has good air spaces. Phals need lots of air at the roots. I would repot to another medium.

You can repot Phals at any time. They do well in medium to large bark; scoria or lava chunks; clay LECA used in hydroponics or even stones.

Thanks! I hope I can learn a lot.

Well, autum is just starting so we are about 80 - 95f. But it rains sometimes so it stays humid and temperature is gonna be a little colder from mid october. I saw on a local Home Depot an orchid substrate will this be enough to repot it?

Your temperatures now are perfect for Phals. They like to be warm to hot, and humid all year. Can you take a picture of the substrate? Sometimes they sell substrate that is not good for Phals.
