How do I know when my warm growing cymbidium needs water Male

Here in NJ, I have Cymbidiums outside from late April till 1st frost (sometime between Oct 15 and Dec 1st). They are on benches in full sun.

They are watered with a sprinkler, which is on for 2-3 hours, 3 times a week.

They will take water daily. If they are in a water-retaining mix, skipping even a few days will do no harm.

You're most welcome MM! Thanks for watching that video too MM. You'll do just great.

[update below]

I agree with Kim ------ full sun will/can be very good for a lot of cymbidiums - for growing, and getting them strong for spiking/flowering etc.

For me in the tropics - my temperate climate cyms in the video are being grown mainly as house-plants - for their nice leaves hehe.

The chance of spiking is kind of low or very low when temperate climate cyms are grown in the tropics. This is ok! I'm very happy to be growing some cyms too.

Mercurianmad - the "warmth-tolerant" cyms should bloom fine for you. The one that you have is just a bit on the young side, probably next year. You can probably also get away with some of the more "normal" ones, since you do have a period in the fall with cool nights and warm days (which is what Cyms love).

SP has a much bigger challenge where he lives, since tropical nights never get particularly cool. The late-summer bloomers (a lot of them have Golden Elf or Peter Pan, or other ensifolium hybrids in their background) are likelier to produce flowers in perpetually warm climates (as opposed to just growing leaves)
