Default Medium for no ID Zygopetalum

Hi, I received a no ID zygopetalum, that has now just finished flowering. It has two new growths coming that when mature will probably over hang the pot, therefore I would like to re-pot. However, I am a little confused on the potting medium to use after my reading watching vidoe's online. Some have suggested that 50:50 houseplant soil (potting soil): perlite (Perlag) as a better medium to use than orchid bark/moss mix. Does anyone have any ideas on the best medium to use or own experience with media.

I use small bark for mine, water them twice a week and they grow fine.

Anything moisture retentive. They don't like to dry out.

I use equal parts moss, and bark with a hand full of leca or cut up wine corks. ES is right, they don't like to dry out. Good air circulation is a must too.

There is no “right” mix for a plant, because “the mix” has no bearing on the rest of your conditions.

ES’ comment should be heeded, then you need to consider what mix might work well with your growing conditions and watering preferences to keep the roots moist without suffocating them. (I am not fond of the soil idea.)

I have always grown them in semi-hydroponic culture, but that doesn’t mean you should.
