Sickly vanda slimy roots after soaking
Default Sickly vanda slimy roots after soaking

Hey everyone. My one sickly vanda is hanging in there. It’s leaves have yellow spots all over them. It is just starting to grow three new roots very slowly.

I have been soaking the orchids at night in warmish water for five hours, then letting them dry out completely for the day under the led light. When I took the vanda out of the water just now it’s roots were green, plump, and a bit slimy. But no brow or black spots or discoloration. Why are the roots slimy? Is this normal?

They dry out fully to a bone dry white root every day. Temperatures are 72 to 62 degrees. Humidity it around 65 to 70 percent.

And it’s not exposed to harsh light, even though yellow spots have covered the entire plant now. My other vanda which I care for in the same way, which was sent as a replacement for this sickly one, has green leaves.

I wouldn't soak Vandas at those temperatures. That's pretty cool for a Vanda. Get the roots wet and pull them out. I wouldn't expect them to grow much now.

You aren't reusing the soaking water, are you? I wouldn't do that.
