Default leafless dendrobium

Hello All:
I recently purchased a Dendrobium unicum in spike. It looked healthy but last week its blooms fell off along with the leaves. I know some dendrobiums do this annualy as part of their growth cycle but this usually happens in winter.
The canes are green-does this mean the plant is still alive? Or is this orchid dead? I do have another dendrobium that's doing well but that's evergreen.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

It looks extremely dessicated, but alive. That could be from not watering enough, or from a bad root system. When was it repotted? Dendrobiums in growth use a very large amount of water. Repotting usually damages roots. I try to only repot Dens when new roots are forming.

Your Den unicum looks just like mine does at this point. This is a deciduous orchid and loses it leaves before flowering on bare canes. I have a few canes still in bloom, but the biggest has dropped all it's flowers.

I noticed today that there is a tiny new shoot popping out of the medium, as well as a few new growths on the largest cane. So it looks like I've got a new cane and some keiki's starting. It will be interesting to see if any other growth start, I got this plant a few months ago so not sure of its habits.
