How to handle leaf damage during transport

Hello!

I was so excited to receive my second order online and when I opened one of them I found that a beautiful leaf suffered a split pretty much entirely down the middle. To me it looked packaged very well so I was a bit surprised.

My question is, what do I do from here? Should I be contacting the vendor? Should I cut the leaf off? I do believe there is a growth coming out in between the damaged leaf and the leaf below it. Would removing this damaged leaf cause any issues with this growth?

Lelani - contacting the vendor can help with them knowing what happened. Hopefully can help improve something in terms of packing.

As for the leaf split .... the leaf could possibly keep functioning. If the split can be tolerated and overlooked ..... then it should be ok to grow the orchid as-is. No need for snipping.

Don't remove the leaf. Chances are the split will just dry up and cause no problem other than being unsightly. A dusting of cinnamon wouldn't hurt. Just be vigilant for any signs of rot. And, as others have said, it wouldn't hurt to contact the seller.

Phalaenopsis and Cattleya leaves often split longitudinally like this when the plant gets very dry. The leaf still functions fine. Leave it alone. The vendor probably thought the plant would do better in the box dryish and hot rather than wet and hot.

Thank you so much, everyone! I have contacted the seller and I will keep the leaf! I will assume that it did get dry on the way but I'm glad that it will be okay! I was just afraid it might cause a problem with the plant and I really love this one!
