Hello orchid lovers! I’m a new orchid parent and two months ago I got an ascocentrum ampulleceum. It’s adorable and had purple freckles all over it. Just realized that all the freckles have disappeared. Plant looks great. I know it’s a lighting issue - just was unclear whether it needs more or less light.

First, Welcome!

If the freckles were on the leaves, it is just getting less light than it was getting in its previous home. If the flower has a lot of pigmentation (and this one certainly does) in high-light conditions the anthocyanin (red pigment) can show up in the leaves. This is a high-light plant, so you might try increasing light somewhat, particularly since that is a big factor in getting it to bloom.

Robin - look into this article Click Here ..... and look for the part that says "produces numerous freckles of purple pigment in its leaves".

Thanks very much. I wasn’t sure if it wasn’t getting enough light or too much.
