Hello all,

Yesterday I was walking through a park near Lake Huron. It is called Tobermory.
The park has a wild garden with 40 species of orchids and I was anxious to find them. I came upon this plant and couldn’t find it online.
Is this an orchid?

I'm not familiar with temperate forest plants, but I think that is aomething like a Solomon's seal, and not an orchid.

ES has it. That's the one!

I did a google search for "ontario lake huron natural plants" and one of the pics in the images section of google search had the same sort of leaves, and with white flowers.

I recognised the Soloman's Seal straight away as it was very common in the area of the UK that I used to live in. Moving to somewhere with a completely different climate 8 years ago I was suddenly faced with a whole range of unknown plants. I found an app for my android phone called PlantNet - take a pic and it identifies it for you 9 times out of 10 - amazing! Perhaps you're all familiar with the app already - don't know what it's database of orchids is like!

I was also going to say Solomon's Seal as well, its (the European species) quite common in the foothills of the French Alps.

Plantnet is a fantastic app, and one that I put a lot of trust in since it was developed by research institutes. Like you I find it to be extremely accurate and the few times it has misidentified is when there are several closely related species or it is a plant which isn't very common (so not much data). Still, even when it's not 100% correct it's very good for getting you searching in the right direction with more conventional means!

I found another app called Picture This and it looks like this plant is called a Starry False lily of the valley. I looked up Solomon’s seal and that didn’t seem right.
But thank you for helping me out!

Starry false lily of the valley is also known as False Solomon's Seal , the difference lies mainly in the position of the flowers. Glad you found your answer!
