Mosquito spray on orchids? Male
Default Mosquito spray on orchids?

Hello all,

I am having problems with mosquitoes in my greenhouse. Is it safe to spray the anti mosquito chemicals around the orchids?

Can't answer that without knowing the chemicals, but I thought mosquitoes needed standing water to breed. I'd look at that first.

Agree with Ray. Look for standing water inside the greenhouse.

They can breed in bottlecaps or dishes under pots. An empty pot sitting at an angle under a bench may accumulate enough water for them to breed. If you have tank bromeliads they will breed there. Here in the Sonoran Desert we have native mosquitos that will breed on wet soil.

Mosquitoes are a real problem where I live so I put Mosquito Bits in all my plant saucers when I put my plants out for the summer. This year, I bought a lotus again so it has the Mosquito Dunk as well as the bits. I have found these products to be perfectly safe for plants and effective at preventing my plant collection from being a mosquito breeding ground.

One product at least should be workable - such as "pestrol ultra outdoor automatic spray unit natural pyrethrum timed micro mist".

Unfortunately, that sort of item would likely wipe out all the insects in the greenhouse. The mosquitoes themselves are just doing their thing too I guess. All trying to survive in this world.

If you can find sources of water, such as pot trays etc, then put some mosquito dunk pieces into there - so that whenever there's water in there, it can handle the mosquito larvae (or something).
