Cattleya skinneri is a species. (name should be lower case) The genus actually has been reclassified as Guarianthe (closely related to Cattleya, but differences that only a taxonomist could love) That actually tells quite a lot about it. Here's some information: Cattleya skinneri and some species information IOSPE PHOTOS A species occurs in nature - people will selectively breed for size, form, color, etc. But as long as the selections are within the species, it is still the species. Breed with other species (or hybrids), and you get a hybrid.

Sometimes there is information on the tag about a color variety (e.g. Cattleya skinneri var. alba for a white one with no pink or red) or a cultivar in single quotes e.g. Cattleya skinneri 'Heiti Jacobs' to refer to a specific plant or clone of it) But the absence of those qualifiers does not make it a NOID - the species name is very much an identifier.

If you have pack rats you will have NOIDs. They steal labels to incorporate into their nests.

Hi John,

NoIDs are as cool as you want them to be!!! I have tons of Holland factory Phals and thanks to them and not to my fancy IDs, right now I have the house full of flowers and I 💕 love it.

I like the challenge of notorious and rear Orchids, but I really enjoy my tons of flowers from a hybrid phal or oncy.

interesting question! before i got addicted to orchids, the girl and i had several noid phals that got us started. then shortly after i became an orchid snob (totally admit that) !

she, on the other hand, remains unbiased and will bring home grocery noids any time she sees one she likes. that adds nice flowers to the house and more ochids to experiment on. so, while i personally wont buy them anymore i do still enjoy them. and my personal favorite out of all our plants is the noid (paprika) phal that she bought me originally. it's big, blooms regularly, and has great form and color
