named it ‘nehi’!
bought as “teacup” orchid in sept 2019, ‘nehi’ is, i guess, what you call a “double-bloomer”?
a single spiker.
you get the first flowering of 20+ blooms.
when i first got it it was in bloom (first bloom, i now know). it got some shock at first and some buds lost; also after some flowers dropped, i cut/trimmed two of the arms (secondary branches on spike). this trimming, i believe, caused the (first, unexpected) second bloom to grow a new branch, this branch was HEAVILY fasciated (learned that here
); that fasciated second bloom branch produced another approx 30 flowers!
then it vegetated from i guess april to august — 2 air roots, new leaves. then a new spike.
this time, sep 2020, i have again 2 branches on the spike. nehi produced 20-30 flowers; now there are new buds — a second blooming. i did no trimming/cutting! this time. so the second flowering continues from the 3 growing tips — it hardly starts until flowers, up
to half (seems like) fall... others hang it much longer, but if last time is the pattern, then — i it’s going to say most of these flowers would fall before any second set begin to bloom, but i guess that only happened because I trimmed last time. Because some of these are going to bloom now or very soon.
but the first set of flowers probably aren’t far behind the 50% that already have fallen.
so i’ve had nehi for a year and a half two blooming seasons — the first one was already halfway finished when i got it — but nehi has, in that time, or will have, produced over 50 flowers, maybe more. 🌸
