Default Dendrobiums from Ebay

Hello,
I recently purchased 10 no name dendrobiums off of ebay.
I grow lots of Phals, but this in one of my first Dens.
Unfortunatly they came while I was on vacation. I have a "plant and pet sitter" that came everyday. She took them out of the box "bare root" and layed them on the box and watered them. I don't know how often.
My question is, since I am new to Dens, there seem to be few roots and they are thin and a dirty white color. The roots are short , 2-3 inches. When I potted them and soaked in a superthrive solution, they seem to be very top heavy. The mixture is mainly bark and some charcoal. I grow outside in a shade house, humidity is 60%.
What are dens roots suppose to look like?

Live roots are a whitish color hopefully with green tips during active growth. Dead roots are brownish and soft and spongy. Here are some good ones:
