The total lack (apparently - maybe) of photographs of 'eyes' of oncidium ------ likely means that their 'eyes' are not easily detectable or even accessable with our own 'eyes' AND/OR the media conceals activity occurring at the base of the bulbs, which is often different for catts - which have eyes that are visible to the human eye (and catt rhizomes are often visible too, which at least allows the rhizome to be scanned for nodules/nodes/eyes/tabs/stubs) ..... and hence there are at least some photographs of 'eyes' of catts that can be found online.
So not being able to see or detect eyes of oncidiums - is sort of like - if a tree falls in a forest, and we don't see or hear it fall .... then ..... we know how it goes hehehe
The main thing is that - if we grow the orchids under suitable conditions and keep them healthy, then the orchids are expected to keep propagating nicely.
And if for some case where an oncidium is down to say 1 bulb with or without leaves, then the best thing that can be done to provide hope is to offer conditions that give it the existing system the best chance of hanging on - and hopefully a new shoot can eventually be generated.
