Catasetum - new growth has some new growths
Guys, I have a question. I have this catasetum type, Fdk. Dark There After ‘SVO Crazy Good’ AM/AOS x Ctsm. Jose Avalon’s ‘SVO’. It was a gift I received when I purchased another catasetum type from a man in my local orchid society, so I don’t know much about it. It’s growth is the smallest of my 3 catasetum types, but it looks like the new growth has sprouted 2 newer growths? It almost looks like a 3rd tiny growth wants to emerge as well. What is this?
Is this from culture or genetics? It’s not like I can do anything about it, but it’s the tiniest of the 3 that I am growing already, and I was completely taken by surprise when I spotted these!
First picture is a comparison pic of overall growth- orchid in question is the bottom right next to my Black Pearl on the left (swoon!) and the Cycnodes Wine Delight in the back (Which got so big so fast to the point that the bottom leaves are tearing-it’s just bursting at the seams!). The ‘chid in question is just so tiny! Why would it want to create multiple growths? Or are those flower spikes already?? I doubt it but...I’m totally new to this type of orchid and I HAVE TO SAY it’s a pleasure to watch them develop so quickly!! Versus my cattleyas and other slow growing types I am having so much fun watching my hibernating gals come to life! But what the heck, Dark There After, are you okay?
