I have 3 new vanilla plants about 12" long that seem to be doing well. I just re potted them into 6" containers and I am trying to figure out the best structure for them to grow on. I am in North Florida and they will most likely spend their time on a back patio getting morning sun or when it gets cold, a small greenhouse kept around 70 degrees. Any suggestions?
I don't think they're particularly finicky, as long as they can climb - the higher, the better, but they don't seem to like to bloom until they reach the top of whatever is available and start to climb down again (or at least horizontally).
I've grown them on treefern poles, trellises, and had them simply climb up the pipework in the greenhouse.
