hello, just wanted to give and update and thank everyone again for all of your great advice. the weather has warmed up significantly and the spots went away, and though i lost a leaf the damage seems to have stopped there.
the blooms have been beautiful but are starting to drop now, but i also have two new leaves coming in! very exciting i am watering more frequently and i see new roots peeking through the pot as well.
I would like to emphasize Phalaenopsis are warm to hot growing shade plants. Your house is too cold for Phals in the winter. They may or may not survive regular nights into the 50s F / 10-15C, even if dry. People here on OB have put their Phals on heat mats for the duration of the winter, with good results. Look up posts by OB member greenpassion, who grows in Vermont, and uses heat mats in winter. Click on Members in the top menu, then find greenpassion, click on her name, and look at all posts.
I strongly recommend you read the first few pages of this thread to get a better idea of growing Phalaenopsis. They are not hard to grow, but there are things you must provide: The Phal abuse ends here.
