There are six that I would love to have again....

1) The spectacular NoID Dendrobium...22 flowers per spike, each flower looked like that of a Phal, in bloom ten months of every year, usually with multiple spikes, and sometimes fragrant. One of the offspring knocked this out of the pot and planted it upside down...it always hated being disturbed and it just did not recover. This is the only reason I prefer named orchids...I would have loved to have a name to guide me in finding another close to this one.

2) Lc.Ann Akagi 'Hihimanu' This was a victim of the 'Black Plague'...when I learned about Calcium deficiency after switching from a pond to rain water and orchid fertilizer. I saw this once a few years ago but it was out of my price range.

3) Dendrobium Kauai Evening Song 'Grape Fragrance' This was a very nice, fragrant orchid from Exotic Orchids of Maui. I put my plants out every summer and this was one of the victims of my dog's rare but deadly orchid attacks.

4) Blc. Sanyung Ruby '(name in chinese characters meaning something like Dragon of Light)' Nice, dark purple fragrant Cattleya that stayed compact and bloomed twice a year and the blooms lasted six to eight weeks. It was one of my first Cattleyas, bought from the local florist with that first noID Dendrobium. Also lost to the Calcium deficiency-plague.

6) Angracum Magdalenae from Oak Hill Garden. This was the hardest loss of all as I absolutely loved this orchid and babied it. I grew it from a tiny thing for seven years until it reached blooming size. It bloomed twice a year, fragrant during the day and more so at night. It went into a rapid decline over the course of a week from a fungus infection and was gone by the end of the week. I have two new mags but I have no idea if they will be as nice as the first one (the leaves already weren't perfect when I received them). I still miss the first mag.

7) Tuberolabium woodii I cannot find this anywhere!

He has since passed away and he was a big breeder of blue catts.

That is really terrible! I saw a visitor pick up a miniature orchid at our show but they saw me watching and put it down.... Yikes!

Sorry about everyone's losses here.

Massively sorry for your loss!!!!!! I hope 'nature' catches up with these sorts of people. The exhibition plants should really be watched over like a hawk by the organisers - to protect all the exhibit grower participants.

I have resorted to two-sided tape... if someone tries to grab a plant, the surrounding cloth comes too and they are no longer surreptitious. Or wire plants together or to the structure. It is so sad that one has to resort to such measures. I have been participating in, and running, shows for a long time... and have plenty of stories. I have dreamed of electrifying a display to deliver a painful shock to not only the thieves, but to the idiots who have to touch everything, ignoring all the "Do Not Touch" signs... never actually did it, but it is such a satisfying thought.

People just think that they can help themselves in this day and age. What bothers me the most about the theft is that the idiot that stole them probably had no clue on how to care for them and killed them in a short period of time. I raised that Starry Eyes from a tiny seedling.

Or may put them in a show and claim credit. Maybe even submit for judging in their name. Look carefully at shows in your area... they might just "appear" at some time.

Thanks, I've never thought about the thief putting them in a show. There is a show next weekend at another city that is forty miles away. I have numerous pictures of my plants that were taken and I'll definitely have proof that the two plants are mine. I put a personal id that is on the plants where nobody will notice it. I have a good feeling that I'll get my plants back. I forgot to mention one thing. My society had cameras going on all the time and we have the pictures of six people who stole plants from our display. One member of our society knows one of the thieves. This is going to be an interesting week.
