I think one of my favorite phals has been ruined

It has started growing new leaves again. I guess the active growing part of the crown wasn’t damaged as it turns out.

Looking back at the photos without damage in mind, it appears you are growing the plant in way too much light. It looks pale with a hint of almost sunburn. These are deep understory plants tat will bloom much better if grown with less light.

I have had this happen. I douse the plant in hydrogen peroxide, repot, and wait for a new growth from the base. Worked every time.

A word of caution here... peroxide is really bad for roots - it damages the microscopic hairs that do much of the work of the active root... the plant likely will recover, but will be set back. (If you got away with pouring it through the medium, it's probably because the medium provided enough surface area and "crud" to exhaust the peroxide before it did too much damage to the roots ) There's a lot of the peroxide advice in YouTube videos... and most of it is bad. Peroxide can be useful for local treatment away from the roots, but if you need a fungicide use a fungicide...

That is good to know. I think you are right that the substrate helped. I usually followed up by an immediate drenching afterward - but I only ever did it on phals which I find to be super hardy.

What fungicide would you recommend?

I'll leave that to some of our members who live in humid climates. Honestly, I have never found the need for one... I use Physan to kill algae on the greenhouse floor, may occasionally use it on a plant but not sure that it does much. I just rinse roots well (running water works very well for crud-removal), repot in fresh medium, and maybe let it dry for a couple of days before watering if the roots were waterlogged. "Tincture of fresh air" solves a lot a problems...
