I keep mine like 50-60% too. Im not sure about what will ruin the walls. Do you have wooden window cases? I never even thought about that becuase mine are metal.

I do have wooden window cases, but I use window plastic insulation during the winter to stop condensation and ruining the wood (also the insulation protects the orchids from the cold windows).
