I love that pale flowered Phal, it looks so graceful! Nice staking job too, it's staked but still looks very natural.

Speaking from my own experiences and preferences, horizontal spikes can be difficult to accomodate on a shelf full of plants, and easy to damage break when manipulating plants when watering. Even when I place the flowering plants on display elsewhere, there's a higher risk of knocking the spike with something. For very large flowered hybrids, the weight of the flowers can be too much for the spike and it needs some support, which is difficult to do if the spike is horizontal.
I don't like the look of completely vertical staked spikes (too unnatural looking to my taste), so usually stake them at roughly a 45° angle
