Hard to tell, photo is pretty small. I am guessing maybe roots. You'll just have to be patient, and observe.

Strive for a healthy plant. Healthy plants bloom. If you focus on just blooming you will be disappointed. Your plant looks healthy and shooting out new roots + leaves.

Tedro - nice activity from the orchid. I agree about hard-to-say about what it is right now. It could possibly be new roots.

The image size is relatively small. So it's not possible for us to get a more detailed look at that region of interest. One thing you could do is to take close-up shots of that region, and make your images around 1024 x 768 pixels (width x height) or 768 pixels x 1024 pixels. These kinds of image sizes can then be uploaded to orchidboard, so that the final size (after orchidboard processing) will remain roughly these sizes.

A bit more on the "be patient" advice... Whatever it is, there is nothing you can do to change it. (Root or spike or basal keiki, you can't turn one of them into something else) It appears to be healthy growth so there is no intervention needed. The way to learn about orchids is to watch them. And they don't do anything fast. Whatever it turns out to be, the next time you see it, you'll know...or if you think you know and guess wrong, then you'll know two things.
