Default Fert for Dummies

The directions on fertilizer usually say to add so much per gallon of water. The thing is--I water in the kitchen sink and just let it run through. How can I accurately apply fertilizer this way?

Thanks!!

I do the same as becca. Since you only fertilize every second, thrid etc. watering, I normally only do this every 3 weeks. Other than that, I just use luke warm tap water...

I hate how they give you instructions for several gallons lol... what about the people with one or two plants. AND, the amount of stuff you put in the water is soo small.. you would have to put like 1 grain on fertilizer into a cup of water :P... well at least with my brand anyways

I fert once a week, but my problem is that I have a
18 1/2 gallon tub that I use to dunk my plants in and when I mix the fert in it makes too much. I also save gallon jugs, so that's my answer for people with one or two orchids. I've got around 150 orchids somewhere up there, and it probobly only takes 11 or 12 gallons for me. Somewhere around there!

There are a couple options for folks with a largish collection. The best is make a stock solution, way more fertilizer than normal and use a dedicated proportioner to dilute the stuff as you water. It's similar to the Miracle grow things that go on end of hose. Here's one link - there are lots of products available Watering and Fertilizing Tools (look down a ways at the Syphon Mixer). You can also get these at better garden shops.
