Is this a cymbidium? If it is, I have a few questions
Default Is this a cymbidium? If it is, I have a few questions

Hello, I bought this plant a few weeks ago and want to repot it since the blooms already faded.

1. Can I repot it in sphagnum moss only? There's not a lot of options available where I live and sphagnum is something I can reliably get.
2. Does the bulb stay outside the medium like in the photo?
3. Does it bloom again from the same bulb or are there going to be new growths?
4. Do I cut the spikes?

It's the one with the pink blooms. Unfortunately I didn't get a better photo before they faded.

It took me a bit to see the flowers. Yes it’s a Cymbidium. I haven’t heard of anyone growing one of these in moss. I grow all of mine in bark. It’ll need a cool winter and it’ll push blooms as a new growth in the winter or spring. The ones that I’ve bought as single pseudobulbs have needed a few years of growth before they were ready to flower again for me. The pseudobulb should not be buried and you can cut spent spikes. If you let them dry up first, the plant will re-absorb any remaining nutrients.

I'm limited to sphagnum and coconut husk. I can't get decent bark. I'll wait a bit to see if I get other responses and if not I guess I'll have to experiment.

I’ve purchased several very nice Cymbidiums that were grown in coconut husk chips so that may actually be a good option. See: https://www.cymbidium.org/documents/...enBatchman.pdf

I can see no reason to repot that plant at the moment. The bark looks in good condition and the pot is large enough to contain this year's growth. Of your two options I would use coconut husk when it is time to repot.

That looks like a teacup cymb? Around here that would be an excellent find. I've potted a few young cymbs in moss successfully but, I always use clay pots. I see no reason why you couldn't mix the coconut chips with some moss. I don't know your climate but, when you see new root growth would be a good time to repot. Pot for a year or twos new growth.

It's not potted in bark really, it's just the very top. It seems to be fine coconut coir
