Rescue orchid from Home Depot

I'm new to this site, and am looking for some help! I have had previous experiences with orchids - good with dendrobiums, not so good with phalaenopsis, vandas and oncidiums - but I'm trying to learn! I found a beautiful little orchid plant at Home Depot today that had apparently pulled from its pot and was just lying on top of the medium. Roots were dry, and it doesn't look great, but I talked them into letting me have it for 3 bucks! I don't even know what kind it is, but here's a photo of the poor baby. Maybe someone can tell what it is and what I need to do to possibly rescue it. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!

Hi Phoenix! Welcome!!!! Your orchid looks like it has a good chance of revival. I saw some green tipped roots and don't see anything that looks black and mushy. I hope you have soaked the roots, which it looks like it needs.
I can't be absolutely sure, but it looks like you have a nice Cattleya IWAN Apple blossom there. (That is just my stab in the dark).
It likes bright light...a little morning or afternoon sun. An east or west window is ideal. They normally need to dry completely between waterings, but they need more water while actively blooming. They should also have fertilizer during active growth time.

KiKi, thanks so much for your speedy reply! I was advised by one of the ladies at the store to soak it for about 15 minutes then repot and let it dry out. The bloom is so beautiful and it looked so sad, I just had to bring it home to give it a chance. I sort of thought it might be a cattleya, in which case I think I got a good deal if it lives! I have some friends here who are avid orchid growers, so I figured I had some resources to tap. Thanks again!

Great find Phoenix...it does not look really bad at all. A bit of TLC and it will flourish you with lovely blooms...

Great save! It is indeed an Iwan. Appleblossom. The fragrance will blow you away.
