Problem with new promnea sunlight
Default Problem with new promnea sunlight

Hello,
I have a new promnea sunlight. I am relatively new to orchids and this thing is blasting buds since i brought it home two weeks ago. I have put it in a well lit but not direct sunlight area. I watered it because i read they like to be wet. The buds started turning brown, then the brown follows down the stem gradually until the entire stem is dead. It has killed 3 or 4 already maybe 5 and none of the other buds are even attempting to open. Now i noticed today there are tiny tips on the leaves that are brown.

i got worried that it was too wet, so i have been letting it dry out. It is much drier than before but still moist.

What am I doing wrong?

Please help!

Thanks bunches!!
Melannie

Too warm?

Insufficient humidity?

Promeneas seems to be a tricky for a lot of people since they are susceptible to rot if the conditions aren't to their liking. They like to remain evenly moist, and tend to rot if allowed to dry out too much. I've given up on this genus because of rot issues.

Do you have some photos of the plant? You probably can't post them right away (need a minimum of 5 posts, it's an anti spammer measure), so you can either comment on some other threads to reach the required 5 posts, or post a link from a Flickr/photobucket/other album, or use something like ImgBB — Upload Image — Free Image Hosting to generate a bb code to imbed the photo here.

It could be that your plant is still adjusting to your conditions, and it may simply be a case of bad bud blast. Or it's something else, in which photos would help...

Do you mean that you don't see anywhere to click to attach a photo, or are you getting a message when you try to post?

If it's the first, in order to attach a photo you can't use the quick reply box at the bottom of the thread, you need to click on "go advanced" just under it. From there, there is an option below the message box to attach files.

If you are getting an error message, what is it? If you are trying to attach several photos at once, you may be going over the file size attachment limit. In the case of a single photo, you may need to downsize the image if it was taken with a proper camera or in super high resolution on a phone.

Default brown on flower stems

Hi,
Here you can see brown on one of the flower stems and then some stems that completely turned brown and died. When they initially turned brown, they were not crispy or hard, they felt like a normal stem just completely brown and dead.

does anyone have an idea of what i am doing wrong based on what i wrote initially describing its lighting etc.!

thanks!!! Melannie Good luck with your monday!

To what temperatures is it exposed?

How is your water quality?

What formula and concentration of fertilizer do you use, and how often do you apply it? Granted, beginning a couple of weeks after acquisition suggests that has nothing to do with it, unless it has been extreme, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Any ripening fruit or gas flames nearby in your home?
