Mini phal/doritis cross? - Orchid Board

, im new to the forum,i am not sure if i post it in the correct spot tho

. Id like to show you, a weird mini phal i got the other day with peloric flowers, i think? Im not sure...maybe its a doritis crossed with a normal phal? I coudnt find anything like it on the internet. The plant itself, look like a mini phal tho. Take a look

. Pictures aint the best quality tho. Id like some help to find out what this plant is.

First, welcome!

This is the "big lip" type of Phal, which is, indeed peloric. (Sort of "reverse peloric" ... the term "peloic" us usually used to describe a lip pattern in the petals, here the flower has the petal form in the lip) This form is becoming quite popular - breeders work to get it. Beyond that, impossible to determine the parentage unless it has a name tag. I do love the color.

This is not an intergeneric hybrid. The species formerly classified as Doritis are actually just Phalaenopsis.

Thx! Fun fact about it. I got the plant totally random, when i bought me another 3 mini phals..it was a rescure phal, so i had to cut the flower spike of it. I know its bad to buy rescure plants but i just had to get it. Idk if i love or hate it...its unique i guess. Ty for the comments. And its good to know its just a normal phal and not doritis..people dont use the doritis name anymore?

A lot of orchid genera are getting reclassified... some genera that were originally assigned based on factors such as form have been lumped into other genera based on DNA indicating that they aren't really sufficiently different for a separate genus. It's an area of huge confusion, especially in the hobbyist and horticultural worlds, because it also causes ambiguous names that then have to be changed at the species/grex (hybrid name) level. These little details are important if you are submitting a flower for judging, or planning to breed with it (which affects the "pedigree") but otherwise... most of us don't change plant labels. It's in the "nice to know" category. Enjoy...
